they have a mate/demate device. its like a big scaffolding arch they pull the shuttle under. they grab the shuttle with it, lift it up, secure it, pull the 767 under it, gently lower the shuttle, then pull out. vice versa for getting it on there.

I'm glad that they're retiring this piece of shit soon; what a bad path they took with the development of the space shuttle. The new design makes much more sense.

I've seen the space shuttle. I have seen them move it... on that big pad thingy... but no I have never seen it on top of an air plane.

it comes from edwards AFB. when they bring it back in they usually parade it up and down cocoa beach before they land it. it flew over my soccer game when i was in like fourth grade. it was pandemonium.

ironically: from teh special i watched, one of the pilots interviewed said that it flew like a normal 747, but was just a little more sluggish then usual.
