it was a postwar universal carbine. its made from all GI parts cept the receiver. its a plainfield, they were the one of the earliest manufacturers of post war carbines. nice gun but i sold it a while back.
if you are into carbines, i have a friend with 30+ m1 carbines he only does GI stuff. he also has an M2 carbine (m1 carbine with the rock and roll switch, you can see it in action on july 4th)

i love blasting the hell outta targets.
shooting bottles, golfballs, shotgun shells, whatever, its just fun to try and be as accurate as possible.
and if you are ever pissed off, you go to the range and dump 10 30rd mags thru your AK-47 as fast as you can. the combination of the target being shredded, the smoke billowing from the smoldering handguards, and the odor of cheap russian blasting ammo puts the soul at ease. u really oughta try it sometime.

And just a lil info on your gun: Almost all universals were made with "mil-spec" parts, but they're not GI. if they were, the receiver would be the same as well. Not many GI parts will bolt on to a Universal. Plus, they have this bad tendendancy of blowing up at the most inopportune times. Be glad you sold it.
