For me, Star Trek: The Next Generation will always be the definitive Star Trek series. Even though the original spoke
volumes for being part of bringing diversity into television with the introduction of Uhura, The Next Generation really brings more to the series than just Kirk getting alien pussy in every god damn episode. Deep Space Nine was nothing but a dull boring attempt to branch out the Star Trek universe even more, and didn't really do anything for me. I mean, would you be interested in the background politics of keeping a space station in orbit? Yeah, see? I didn't think so. Even now, I look back at ST:TNG and ask myself if there has been any science fiction television characters after Star Trek: The Next Generation nearly as compelling as Data and Q.
The answer is no.
Even though the series has been cancelled, I've been opening up to Star Trek: Voyager for a couple of reasons. First and foremost, Voyager is a completely different design than your average NCC-1701D, let me tell ya. This is one sleek ship. Second, Ensign Kim and Tuvak are the best supporting characters I've seen in a long time. Let's not also not forget Seven of Nine, the most visually appealing ex-Borg this side of the quadrant. The things I'd like to do to her, whoooeeii. It involves Bjork music and some toasters.
Mmm,that Seven. Never has the concept of amor ex machina looked so good.
Third, it is a wonderful change of pace to see a woman command a ship through the unknown, let alone lead a Federation vessel through space. Captain Janeway is the kind of woman I'd like to have as a Geography teacher, maybe as a mentor. Perhaps, If I'm lucky...even as a lover. A much more...mature lover that will tend to my passionate fragile side.
