I wouldn't say that the nebula has a striking resemblance to Vincent Van Gogh's painting; but maybe Vincent Van Goh's painting has a striking resemblance to the nebula.
If anything, I would say that it was surrealist because it SEEMS that the halo consists of three people grabbing each other's arms, and encircling a forlorn looking monster. Oh, and one of the people is getting eaten by a phoenix or something.
