Oh yeah, get a chip for that thing, they it'll be fast(er).

Then you'll have 252hp/303lb-ft vs the stock 200hp/205lb-ft.

I wouldn't exactly call it hauling ass... but please, tell me what makes it so special, being "German engineered?" What different about this car's engineering that puts it above Mazda and makes it so special?

^ I was wondering the same thing. VW owners always say shit about how their car is "German Engineered", but never state why it makes them soooo special. Its not like they are any easier to work on or breakdown less.

people from DTM deutch tuner motorsports magazine always claim that german engineering is the highest quality and craftsmanship available. They claim thats why most German cars cost more, because they use "better quality" parts and that the mechanics are beter trained and thedesigners are uber smart. Now i dont know how much truth there is behind this but i prefer Japs.

But not as "expencive" with a car that isn't a VW...frankly I've heard nothing but bad things from non-diesel VWs (don't start an argument with me...I said I HEARD...these aren't my own words) now as for the japs...well there's a reason why I like their cars.

thas because the ECu's on vw' susck balls. They do not respond very well to mods. Thats why you have to chip it or get a whole new standalone.

German cars in general are more expensive to maintain. As I was advising someone the other day, owning a German car off-warranty is financial masochism.

Fuck it, even if maintenance is more expensive for a european car, its still worth it Also ... there are vws that are actually manufactured in Brazil and imported to US, so most of fucked up vws that brake down all the time are probably imported from Brazil instead of Germany really

VWs are no longer manufactured outside of Germany, this goes for the GTIs atleast. That's why the base MSRP was raised when the MkV came out. The only thing that's a con on the vw's is the front wheel drive. That's what the Audi quattro system is for.

If you never drove a nicer VW like GTI or GLI, even R32 though some curvy roads and city traffic, then some highway driving [where it really shows] and if you did not feel the difference then you are just not the right kind of driver for this kind of a car. No need for online bash-fest.

MKiV - the model for the GTI pictured is a world of difference from the last generation and if someone wants to bash this car, go drive it first, then get back in ur tuner or econ car and try to pretend to feel good driving that home. [I owned a Civic, I know the feeling.]

Anyways what ever the arguments above are pretty dumb, since it's all about the driver and the car.

So if you love a Mazda, good for you, I stick to my new GTI that was made in Germany and I feel good tearing it up.

PS: Yeah, one can prolly get more HPs or more this and that with another brand...but who gives a fuck if the total package blows. imho

I was just curious what is German-engineered about this car that makes it so superior. Also, if an RX-7 isn't a total package car, then nothing is.

^^^ I drove my friends GTI 6-speed manual on curvy roads and on the highway, both before it had a chip and after it had a chip. I let him drive my RX-7 and he was like, "Oh man, this thing is awesome, it handles amazing, etc."

While it is quite a fun, quick (w/ chip) and decent handling car for its platform (front engine, front wheel drive), its certainly no rear wheel drive sports car.

From now on, when I mention my Acura CL and RX-7 to a VW owner, I will be sure and use the word Japanese-Engineered in front of them.

To each his own, is what I wanted to say with my two lengthy posts.

I love my car, it's perfect for me.

[And there should never be a comparisons between FWD,RWD and AWD - those are apples ,oranges and total bananas.]
