AMA Supersport classes use DOT tires for competition. Besides, that looks like a test ride for a magazine. They always thest them on tracks with the factory tires.

Excerpt from a paper I wrote on motorcycle racing in high school:
"The AMA Superbike racing sanctions three classes: up to 450 cc, up to 600 cc, or up to 750 cc. You can overbore your engine up to 4% over the maximum limit for each class also. Also, no limitations were placed on tires."
I'm not gonna lie, it's from a magazine - but no doubt, that is the same motorcycle.

"Superbike" rules and "Supersport" rules are totally different.
2005 AMA Roadracing rules, Supersport class, page 17, item #3 reads:
"a. For dry track conditions, olny molded grooved-tread tires with molded-in DOT sidewall indentification are permitted".
Mods allowed in Supersport racing are few, if any. This class is designed to allow someone who doesn't have high-dollar factory sponsorship to buy a bike and race competitively without being outspent.
I know this.....I wrenched on AMA SUperbike, Supersport, Battle of Twins, and WERRA Unlimited class race bikes for several years.

True, that's cool.... have any connections to get me some upgrades? I wanna get Yoshimura high mount exhaust, and I'm doing my own undertail and rear fender. Other than that, not too much else I want or need.

Also, another excerpt from that paper I wrote:
"Supersport motorcycles are generally motorcycles anyone can afford that don’t have too much power. Basically, you must leave the bike completely stock (unmodified) except for: frame and swingarm assembly, front forks, wheels, gasoline and oil tanks, fenders and side covers, brakes,carburetors, and seat. You may also overbore the engine up to one millimeter in Supersport racing."

If you change the exhaust, remap the injection or add a Power Commander. You'll be glad you did.
